From 8 to 13 February, the 9th edition of the AWA (Argentina Wine Awards) have been held in the Province of Mendoza. The AWA has established itself as one of the most important events in the local wine calendar (http://www.winesofargentina.org/awa/).
The all female jury of renowned national and international experts, all related to the wine industry, selected the best Argentine wines in 20 categories. This year’s top-class jury headed for example by Jancis Robinson (MW), Christy Canterbury (MW) or Annette Scarfe (MW) emphasizes the role and importance of women in a traditionally male world.
The wine region Mendoza, one of worldwide 9 great wine capitals is said to be one of the most beautiful wine regions- which I absolutely agree :-). Located at the foot of the Andes, the region offers ideal conditions for wine growing thanks to its warm and dry climate as well as the altitude of about 1000 meters above sea level.
